Here are photographs of my work on display at the 'Tate Craven' Exhibition held at South Craven School in 2010. The first example shows a self-portrait painted in acrylic and a portrait of my mum, also in acrylic, both on MDF board. These pieces are rich in colour and pattern as I researched the work of Gustav Klimt to respnd to. The second examples are photographs and sketches incorporated together to create pieces which explore facial features, expressions and emotions. These were drawn using pencil as it was an appropriate material to develop my use of line and tone. The final photograph is an acrylic painting on board which focuses on facial expression and the elderly. I explored the use of tone, texture and line to create a realistic, stirking piece. These are all examples of work submitted for my Art and Design A Level.

'Deformed?' - Disability Commission Project
'Deformed?' - Disability Commission Project
Photography, Stitching and Sketching.
This is a project I completed for a commission project based around disability. As I have Cerebral Palsy myself I enjoy relating my work to personal matters such as disability, diversity and overall awareness of this. I took photographs of my own feet as I wanted something true and striking to be the focus of my pieces, something that wasnt necessarily beautiful but had a beautifully real quality. I wanted to challenge peoples perceptions and force them to look at and, hopefully, understand something that may not have an affect on their everyday lives as it does on mine.

This year I have particularly enjoyed experimenting with expressing myself through the use of continuous line drawings. This has enabled me to view the way I draw in a different way and to not be as precious about my work and the way it turns out. It has allowed me to give my work a depth through emotions as it is such an expressive way of working. I feel my tonal work has highly inproved and I have had the opportunity of working in many different materials, including pen, pencil, pastel, paint and charcoal on a 2D scale. Drawing, I feel, is definitely one of my strengths and is how I start and develop many of my projects. I have really enjoyed the drawing module of my course and am excited to extend my skills further.

These are mostly examples of work from my final piece of my last project. I was really pleased with the way I mixed the colours for the skin tones and blended the acrylic to create a realistic and smooth texture. I enjoyed drawing the children for the piece, researching expressions and gestures that children often use. I started the research for my project by looking at hands as they really interest me and I feel they are a highly underestimated part of the body as they tell many stories. They move and gesture in many ways to tell these stories and they can be decorated and accessorised in many ways which can reflect personality. I wanted to explore the ways in which these gestures and expressions are learnt by children and look at how they show their emotions and express themselves.
